2025 Save The Sierra Club Letter Writing Tool

After years of turmoil, layoffs, and wasteful spending, and with another budget deficit looming, it is time for the Sierra Club Board of Directors to take decisive action to Save the Sierra Club. With the Trump Administration’s unprecedented attacks on environmental and climate policy, it is even more critical that our Board is stepping up and taking real leadership to address the problems facing the organization. Volunteer leaders, Sierra Club staff, and Progressive Workers Union are teaming up to call on the Board to:

The Sierra Club is one of the most well respected and powerful grassroots organizations in the nation - our career staff and volunteers are our greatest assets and should be prioritized over flashy consultants and overpaid and out of touch executives.

With a new crop of elected Board members, and a new President of the Board, now is the time for the Board to stand up and say enough is enough.

Write a Letter to the Board

Consider writing a personalized letter to the Board of Directors voicing your frustration with the current trajectory of the Sierra Club. You can use this letter writing tool, or draft your own message.

What else can you do now?

This toolkit is for everyone in the Sierra Club community: PWU members, SEA members, non-represented staff at the chapter and national levels, Sierra Club members and volunteers, and members of partner organizations.

How it works:

  1. Write an email to the Board, grounded in your experience. We've drafted a sample letter, but feel free to write your own if you prefer! Either way, please personalize this by adding a story about how changes at Sierra Club have impacted you and your work. Don’t overthink this, 1-2 sentences is enough!
  2. Find three coworkers, Sierra Club members, or supporters, and share this tool
